Fixed Term Contract: until 28 February 2029 

We are looking for a Project Data Manager to lead the development, management and delivery of data standards and processes for the BFI’s Stories in Motion project. Working within the BFI’s Cataloguing Standard, you will provide guidance and support to project teams, ensuring consistent and high-quality data management across the programme. The role is responsible for delivering project reporting through the Collections Information Database (CID), as well as representing the Data and Digital Preservation Team at project meetings, championing best practice in data management and digital preservation. 

‘Stories in Motion’ is a three-year programme designed to open the BFI National Archive to wider and diverse audiences, discover new collections, secure the UK’s at-risk videotape screen heritage, and build a resilient, specialist skilled and diverse workforce for the future.   

The project aims to:    

• Increase equitable public engagement with the UK’s screen heritage   

• Embed inclusive, community-led and collaborative practice across the BFI  National Archive,  

• Strengthen understanding, improving transparency and discoverability of the national collection  

• Build sector resilience through partnerships and long-term workforce development  

What you’ll do 

• Work with the Collections Data Manager to define data standards for the new major National Lottery project Stories in Motion. 

• Design and deliver training to systems users, collaborating with other Data and Digital Preservation colleagues where necessary. 

• Create, review and publicise new and existing user support resources. 

• Create and maintain data import templates for the project, working collaboratively with colleagues. 

• Process data imports and other bulk data changes to support the delivery of the project. 

• Work with Information Specialist to develop and maintain authority terms required for the project. 

What you’ll bring 

• Strong demonstrable knowledge of, and experience using, a Collections Management System to manage and improve data (e.g. Axiell Collections) within an archive, library, museum or similar environment.  

• Strong demonstrable knowledge of information management and data quality principles in museums and archives, and their practical application across a variety of uses within a collections context 

• Good understanding of, and experience working with, large datasets using standard tools, for example Excel. 

• Practical experience of data management tasks such as bulk data imports / exports, data cleaning and maintaining data quality and integrity.
